Last day with my little sister!:(

Took the train into Wellie with the hope of going kayaking but it was clear as we travelled in from the waves in the harbour that it wasn’t likely to be possible.  The sky was blue with scudding clouds, warm air temperature but strengthening wind which made it feel cold.  We made a wee diversion to the Beehive before heading to the kayak place for confirmation that it was indeed too windy.

We sheltered in a cafe for a while then split up. Kate and Rosa went shopping, Gus wandered around for a bit then joined us in the pub for a drink and a pizza.

Back at Silverstream we packed, chatted, drank wine and played Cheat and generally made the most of our last day.

Early start tomorrow to get to the airport.

A beautiful day in Wellington – stunning in fact! Clear blue sky and just a light breeze.  Pick of the day is this Tui guzzling on harakeke nectar at the top of Mount Victoria this morning.

Lunch round the bay at Chocolate Fish cafe, then browsing in Cuba Street and a ride in the Cable Car followed by a walk through the Botanics. Loved the evening buzz along the waterfront; people eating, drinking, playing, chatting in the bars, restaurants and the walkway and some still jumping into the water!

Day 1 of the India Rankin Cup and not a great start for the Hilly Boys. Despite dominating possession they didn’t manage to score and Bethlehem took the chances they had and won. In the afternoon the boys played really well, much better than this morning, but were simply outclassed. Gus came away with a pulled ligaments after rolling his ankle in a collision with one 9fcthe STACs players. Hopefully he will be able to play later in the week.

In between games we went for a drive round the bays and wandered a bit.  I love the bright yellow of these oxalis against the bluebird springtime sky.

A very frosty morning at the lake today but it was good to be able to start running in the light as the sun rose.  The sharp blue sky of Hamilton gave way to increasing cloud as I flew South. Even through the murky yellowness of the plane window Ngarahoe shone resplendent enrobed in snow. It was a bumpy old descent into Wellington but the wind roared and hissed and had blown itself and the rain away before we headed out to sample the craft beer delights of Beervana.

So today’s photos tell a story of winter weather and warming beer!

Day 126 May 5th 2016

So I went for a walk around the bays today. Well a bit of the way round and then over the top.  To meet a friend and it turned out to be two friends!  We had a lovely evening catching up and nearly, very nearly getting caught up in the pub quiz!  After the first rainy day in months, Wellington turned on a pretty spectacular sunset.
