A muddy day on the trails. Had to be quick to catch a view between the clouds.
Cold and wet on the football pitch today. Lachlan was in goal.
The rain certainly came down today (but fortunately not as much as in Texas). I spotted this wee one crossing the playground in the school I was working in today.
Queen’s Birthday. Ha! I still find it strange that in NZ we get a day off for the queen’s birthday but in the UK we didn’t.
Lachlan played football and Gus and I went to watch.
Cyclone Cook was supposed to hit us full force this afternoon. The amazing and highly addictive tracking thingy had the eye of the storm coming right over the top of us. So we battened down the hatches, got plenty of supplies in and waited. Then we watched it veer off to the east. We had plenty of rain but the wind missed us. In fact, it seemed so uneventful that we headed to the pub for 3 Beer Thursday and spent a cosy few hours playing cribbage! I also managed to get a run in before the rain hit at lunchtime. The river’s up!
I went for an early morning run to pick up the car we had left in town last night after going to the pub! The water level of the Waikato river is as high as I’ve seen it in the 9 years we’ve been here. Two photos to see the extent of the flooding but it is minor compared to what paves like Edgecumbe have had to deal with.
And the rain keeps falling! The temperature fell yesterday though it’s warm with the wet today. I took advantage of a break in the rain to go to get some bread. The sweet chestnuts are falling and bursting. Autumn is on its way.
Tail end of Cyclone Debbie is dumping its rain on New Zealand. Wet! Another French film this evening – perfect weather for going to the cinema. A social commentary whose message was bleak but which managed to leave you with a sense of hope for humanity. ‘Standing Tall‘ or ‘La Tête Haute’ tells the story of a young boy growing up and surviving against the odds with the help of a judge with compassion and a social worker who recognises himself in the boy. A few tears were shed!
Today’s photo is from the rain. A splash of red in the wet.
Hamilton. Rain. That’s it! The cat couldn’t decide whether to come in or go out, so decided to sit in the flower bed.
