I love the way the geese stand at the edge of the lake and just look out. What are they thinking?
Rotoroa
Day 130 May 9th 2016
Morning walks around the lake have resumed now that hockey training has started again. Think it’s going to be a bit hit and miss this term with all the travelling I’ll be doing so I’ll make the most of them when I can. I looked out for the spoonbills where I saw them last week but they have moved to the other side of the lake. Fast asleep too at 7.15! Lazy!
Day 123 May 2nd 2016
Hockey season has started which means morning walks around the lake. It is dark when I set off and the birds are just waking up. By the time I got round the pigeons which had been gently cooing were flitting around, I had heard the geese fly over honking loudly and land in the middle of the lake before floating serenely to the bank. Today, as well as the usual pukeko, ducks and moorhens I saw a solitary grey heron and a couple of white spoonbills. Difficult to get in-focus shots of moving birds in the mist but I like this one of the heron. Interesting any which way round.
Day 83 March 23rd 2016
Day 81 March 21st 2016
Back on the road again. Well, around the lake anyway! It was a beautiful morning and what I like about walking around the lake are the people both on the lake and sharing the pathway. Most people say hello when I greet them. The last week or so the Waka Ama crews have been training. Love their calls as they count out the strokes.

Day 78 March 18th 2016
Day 60 February 29th 2016
Leap Day! Not sure I have heard it called that before but today there was a whole feature about “Leap Day” on the radio. Traditionally it is the day when a woman can ask a man to marry them – I did just that 16 yrs ago today! But today’s photo is nothing to do with that!
Another walk around Lake Rotoroa in the centre of Hamilton and I came across this wee fellow;

Day 37 February 6th 2016
An ‘easy’ 10km training walk today and since Gus had to be down at the hockey turf for Suburbs trials I was back at the lake. The waterlilies are resplendent at the moment and I took a few photos. But today’s pick is a grey heron eyeing something up amongst the lily pads.

Day 20 January 20th 2016
Love the summer and Lake Rotoroa in Hamilton is a gem in the city. So many families, couples, friends of all ages walking, running, chatting, laughing, sailing on a summer evening at the lake.
Oh, and these wee cuties too! All the ducky birds out in force. The moorhen mummy was viciously defending her brood as I took photos. Never heard a moorhen hiss before! Couldn’t choose so cheated and made a collage!
