Day 3…failed attempt first time as my original photo had people in it!

Day 3…failed attempt first time as my original photo had people in it!

More learning. My next three days will be at Nethui. But since I’m doing the black and white challenge those will be my photos. Day 2 – nearly a conference incident!

Learning all the way today. I spent today in the office in Auckland learning about Te Tiriti o Waitangi and NZ history. Inspiring. Unfortunately, no photographic evidence so I’ll go with Day 1 of the black and white challenge. Take a photo from your daily life with no colour, no people and give no explanation. Easy peasy except I’m in the city and I’m a people watcher…

Annual prize giving tonight. I’m not going to get myself in trouble again for blogging my views on the archaic way we celebrate learning. Instead I am going to share a photo of a young man who has been a friend of my son since we arrived in New Zealand. His parents weren’t at prize giving to see him receive one of the highest accolades for service to the school so I took a photo for them.
It’s the weekend so plenty of opportunity to take photos so spoilt for choice again. With a teenager in the house there are endless shots of phone gazing but I’ll spare you another of those.
When I was a kid we used to shell peas…one of the jobs we liked but there weren’t many peas left to cook by the time we’d finished. I guess mum didn’t mind…
A few to choose from today…a teenager’s wardrobe, raindrops on maple leaves, a music lover’s paradise… But this is my favourite. I tried to snap my son as he was totally absorbed in something on his phone but he looked up just as I clicked!
A couple of days late for Halloween and All Souls but what’s a day or two between souls! The design on this bottle is as good as the beer inside.

Kei te ako te reo māori ahau. This week we have been looking at kiwaka or sayings. This one is used to call someone out when they are lying but in a reasonably polite way. It means ‘you are the descendant of liars’. I created this image which I think is quite apposite given the political environment!
Work took me out and about today. I looked up and saw this amazing sky. A reminder to look up and make the most of the wonders around us and smile. When I looked more closely at the photo I spotted the ‘smile centre’ sign. Seemed perfect.
I was privileged to attend my first Pasifika awards evening in my capacity as BOT member. What a fun filled celebration! I loved the passion, emotion and enjoyment of everyone’s achievements. Such a breath of fresh air! My favourite moment was catching this young man looking after a wee brother or cousin. He was one of a group at a table who took it in turns to hold him. Heartening to see how ‘normal’ it seemed to be for them.
