A hot day needed a walk in the shade of the bush and the promise of water. We took Chris to Kaniwhaniwha and she rose to the challenge of a through trip of the cave! Love her sense of adventure!

Rā 5, Rāpare 5 o Kohitātea 2017
We had a great day out in the hills today. We’ve been here nearly 9 years and never been up Karioi which is a 756m inactive volcano out at the coast by Raglan. It was a perfect day weather-wise with clear blue sky, a light wind and sunshine. So difficult to choose a photo from so many beautiful views
but this one of Gus sitting on a boulder just before the summit with Nigel emerging from the bush behind him is the one! It was an adventure! Plenty of mud, lots of ups and downs, chains, boulders and airy lookouts!
Rā 317 Rāhoroi 12 o Whiringa-ā-rangi
A big adventure today. 23km sliding through mud. Great fun. Unfortunately, no photos of me in action, just the beginning and the end! Stunning setting for the start though and a great send off with a legend to set the scene and a haka.
Day 121 April 30th 2016
Today we took part in the inaugural Waitomo Trail Run. Nigel and Aonghas did the 11km adventure and I did the 22km adventure.
It was a beautiful day and it was indeed an adventure. Hills, river crossing, caves, and stunning limestone scenery. For more photos see our Flickr page.
Day 101 April 10th 2016
Day 96 April 5th 2016
It’s been a strange couple of days. Recovering muscles, swollen toes and waiting for the results.
Loads of angry and disappointed comments on the Oxfam trailwalk facebook page about the conditions and people’s experiences of the 100km. Seems like there were a whole heap of issues; closed checkpoints, dangerous descents, missing markers, record numbers of retirements.
Of 160 teams, only 86 finished with a full team of four.
We ended up 14th team overall and first all women’s team. Very proud of ourselves but also of all those other teams who ground it out in far worse conditions than us for longer. A great effort all round, from the teams walking, the support teams, the volunteers, and the organisers.
