An afternoon in Wellington. It was a beautiful day and I took some stunning photos both over and in Wellington. But today I finally went to the Gallipoli exhibition in Te Papa. Its beauty lies in the way it tells the stories of people who survived and died such a long way from home. Touching, poignant, graphic, honest, sad, courageous, human.
So my boy is going to his first high school ball. We had to match his tie to his date’s outfit. Black tie seemed a bit austere so he went for a black bowtie…
The Waikato river is indeed ‘Mighty’. This is the view from Claudelands Bridge in Hamilton looking towards Anzac Parade (formerly known as Bridge Street) and Victoria Bridge.
The weather is wild tonight – horizontal rain, thunder, lightning and very windy. Tin roofs make it sound worse than it is – a bit like tents! Today has been a bit like a weather sandwich…we awoke to heavy rain but by lunchtime the sky was blue, fluffy white clouds scudded around and the sun was shining. I was tempted out for a wee walk, a bit of fresh air. Not sure that nature quite knows what to make of this winter. There was definitely a touch of spring in the air. Magnolia trees in flower, camellia bushes boasting splashes of bright colour, jonquils bursting bright yellow and birds chirping and chatting when they can in between the rain showers.
I love the delicate colours of this Hebe and its shadow on the lichen encrusted bright blue of the letterbox. (please correct me if I’m wrong and it isn’t a Hebe!)
This is what I have to resist most days. Sitting at my window, a plaintive miaow.
8This has been my mahi today… Well it’s been quite a few of my days recently. Facilitator accreditation… Nearly there…possibly!
7Cheese graters or cats…? I went to grate some cheese to go on top of my soup at lunch time to find that my husband had bought another cheese grater. That brings the tally in our house to at least 7! But they are all different and as @thatcheesegrater posted on my instagram post when I asked how many cheese graters one needed .. “All of them. We deserve equality”

It’s been a rare old windy day with patches of blue sky, sunshine, heavy rain and thunder. The sky was stunning down at the hockey turf this evening.
A wet but warm Saturday in the Waikato. Watched Lachlan play footie in the rain, made some biscuits, watched the rugby… This is Nigel checking his beer on Untappd – lazy Saturday evening.
I had the pleasure of listening to Marcus Akuhata Brown today. What an inspirational, entirely humble speaker with a wry sense of humour. He talked about how knowing where you come from, who your connections are is so important for young people. He gave us this quote from Goethe;
“If you treat an individual as he is, he will remain how he is. But if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.”
It is a reminder that as educators or in any contact we have with young people we have a responsibility when we notice potential that we act on it to lift the lid of the glass ceiling and free the potential.
